Thomas Wilson, A.M.—This excellent minister was born at Catterly in Cumberland, in the year 1601, and educated in Christ's college, Cambridge; where he was greatly admired for his indefatigable industry, and great progress in useful learning. Upon h'is leaving the university, he taught school for some time at Chart wood in Surrey; then entered into the ministry at Capel, in the same county. Here, by his judicious preaching and holy example,,he directed the' people in the way to eternal life. Though he received little or nothing for his pains, he was not the less faithful and laborious in promoting the welfare of souls, lie sought not theirs, but them, and was greatly beloved by his people. Afterwards, he removed to Farlington, near Portsmouth, where he laboured among very ignorant and heathenish people. He did not continue long at this place, but removed to Teddington, near Kingston-upon-Thames. In this situation he continued several years, and was made a blessing to many souls. He next accepted a presentation to the benefice of Otham, near Maidstone, in Kent. At this place he was the means of awakening many careless sinners, and of building them up in faith and holiness. Multitudes flocked to hear him from Maidstone and its vicinity; and the church was soon found too small to contain them. His great popularity and usefulness presently awakened the envy of profane sinners, and several neighbouring ministers; but he went on undismayed, the Lord blessing his labours.....

Thomas Wilson, A.M. - Cet excellent ministre est né à Catterly, à Cumberland, en 1601, et a fait ses études au Christ's College de Cambridge; où il était grandement admiré pour son intravail infatigable et ses grands progrès dans l'apprentissage utile. Après avoir quitté l'université, il a enseigné pendant un certain temps à Chart Wood à Surrey; puis entra au ministère à Capel, dans le même comté. Ici, par sa prédication judicieuse et son exemple saint, il a dirigé le peuple vers la vie éternelle. Bien qu'il n'ait reçu que peu ou rien pour ses douleurs, il n'était pas le moins fidèle et le plus laborieux à promouvoir le bien-être des âmes, il ne cherchait pas les leurs, mais eux, et était très aimé de son peuple. Par la suite, il a déménagé à Farlington, près de Portsmouth, où il a travaillé parmi des gens très ignorants et païens. Il n'a pas continué longtemps à cet endroit, mais a déménagé à Teddington, près de Kingston-upon-Thames. Dans cette situation, il a continué plusieurs années et a été une bénédiction pour de nombreuses âmes. Il a ensuite accepté une présentation au profit d'Otham, près de Maidstone, dans le Kent. À cet endroit, il éveilla de nombreux pécheurs négligents et les édifia dans la foi et la sainteté. Des multitudes affluaient pour l'entendre depuis Maidstone et ses environs; et l'église fut bientôt trouvée trop petite pour les contenir. Sa grande popularité et son utilité éveilla l'envie des pécheurs profanes et de plusieurs ministres voisins; mais il continua indemne, le Seigneur bénissant ses travaux.....
